Why Volunteer?

All of Sidelines’ volunteers are women who have experienced a complicated pregnancy. Some of the volunteers were women supported by Sidelines during their difficult pregnancy and are anxious to "give back" to other woman during this complicated, worrisome time. Others didn't know about Sidelines until after the completion of their pregnancies, and recognize how valuable peer support would have been to them. All of these women know firsthand how difficult it is to put your life on hold to do everything possible to bring your baby close to term.
Volunteers complete an online training by reading various articles on a variety of topics including Guidelines for Support, Communication and Listening Skills, Loss and Grief. We do not give medical advice, and encourage all women with medical concerns to work closely with the healthcare team.

Volunteers provide support in a variety of ways: email, phone, video chat, participating in discussion groups, and sometimes home or hospital visits. We ask that you keep some records of your contact, as well as fill out a form at delivery. Volunteering is very flexible around times that are most convenient for you!
